Frequently Asked Questions
The Therapeutic Alliance: Building TrustAlthough the therapy relationship is not a friendship, it is essential that you feel comfortable and that you can trust me as your therapist for the therapeutic alliance to work. If you have not seen a therapist before the prospect of our first meeting may feel quite daunting to you. This is not uncommon and is understandable given that you may not know what to expect. I have outlined below some frequently asked questions that you may find helpful.
About MeI graduated from London University with a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and thereafter gained a professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling Psychotherapy and Transpersonal Development with the Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy Education (
CCPE) in London. During that time, I periodically travelled the UK and trained groups for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) as an official Associate Trainer in workshops that included: Assertiveness, Managing Stress in the Workplace and Equality & Diversity for Managers. I have been practicing counselling psychotherapy for over 8 years specialising in both short and long term work and currently practice at London Bridge on Borough High Street and in association with (
Verulam Clinic) in St. Albans.
As an experienced integrative practitioner, my approach is both collaborative and active in focussing on the issues identified by the client. I can offer flexibility and tailor the therapy in a way that is most appropriate for each individual, depending on their particular needs and personality. We all vary in our emotional stamina and have differing ways of expressing ourselves. Using the Integrative approach, I can help you to seek out ways of living your life that suits you best. The mainframe of my therapeutic work adopts psychodynamic, cognitive and transpersonal approaches.
Transpersonal DevelopmentI am also professionally trained in Transpersonal Development. You may have reached a stage in your life that begs the question 'there must be more to life than this'. I can help you to explore what this stage in your life means for you whilst facilitating personal growth.
Creative Ways of WorkingFor those of you who may find it difficult to talk about their feelings, I am able to explore your issues with you creatively. By using techniques such as visualisations, sand tray and guided imagery. These ways of working can be extremely effective and the choice would be entirely your own should you feel the need to use them.
